Newsletter – February 2026
Dear Church Family,
The Christmas season has not been the best it could be for some people in our church family, and we remember those who have passed away, those who are suffering ill health and anyone else who is struggling at this time. May God give you his peace.
So, here we are in February already. The nights are, thankfully, getting a bit lighter and we can see signs of spring in our gardens. We remember what is now past, but we have much to look forward to and we thank God for each new day.
Easter is at the beginning of April this year and so it doesn’t seem much of a break after Christmas before we move into Lent as we have Shrove Tuesday on the 17th February and Ash Wednesday, which signals the beginning of Lent, on the 18th.
Lent is a little bit like Advent in that it is a time of preparation. It reminds us of when Jesus set apart some time to be alone in the desert as he prepared himself for his ministry of teaching, leading and healing. In the tradition of the church, we often give something up for Lent to remind ourselves that we are called to be of the world but not in it. Very often people give up sweet things or certain foods, but I know many who give up TV, radio, reading novels etc as a way of spending more time with God, reading the bible or following a Lent study guide.
Just a reminder that this coming Saturday, 7th February, is our monthly Prayer Breakfast and all are welcome to come and spend time sharing breakfast and praying together.
I think most church/community activities have now resumed after Christmas but please check with your group leader if you are unsure.
Glynis.
